Is a boundary map the same as school zoning?

Yes. Districts use different words for the same thing: school zoning, zoning maps, zoned schools, attendance zones, attendance boundaries, and school boundary maps all describe which school serves each address. SchoolMap covers all of it: families search their address and see their zoned school on an accessible map.

Does ADA Title II cover our boundary maps specifically?

Yes. The rule covers all web content and mobile apps, including content provided through vendors. In OCR Case 09-17-1556, Covina-Valley USD's 'Elementary School Boundary Maps' page was cited by name in the OCR complaint. If it's on your website, it's covered. There is no exception for maps.

What if OCR contacts us about our current maps?

Contact us immediately. We can provide your conformance statement and accessibility coordinator documentation. These are standard items OCR resolution agreements require. Having these ready demonstrates good-faith remediation, which OCR considers in resolution.

What file format do we need to provide?

KML or GeoJSON. If you're not sure what you have, email us your boundary file and we'll tell you within one business day. Most district GIS departments can export either format from ArcGIS or QGIS.

Do you integrate with our SIS?

Accepted Answer

No integration required. SchoolMap is standalone. We host it, and you embed it on your site with one iframe line of code. There is nothing to connect, maintain, or credential-rotate.

What happens when boundaries change mid-year?

Send us an updated KML or GeoJSON and we'll update your live map within 5 business days. Mid-year updates are included in your annual subscription, at no extra charge.

Question 7

Who owns our boundary data?

Accepted Answer

You do. We never share, sell, or use your boundary data for any purpose other than rendering your district's map. You can request deletion at any time.
